Alpina has never competed on horsepower numbers. The founding philosophy, established by Burkard Bovensiepen in 1965, was that a great driver's car is defined by feel, refinement, and the confidence it gives its operator — not by a single metric on a spec sheet. That restraint is why Alpina engines often produce less peak power than the M division equivalent but are routinely preferred by experienced drivers.
Every Alpina engine is hand-assembled and signed by its builder at the Buchloe facility. The intake manifolds are hand-polished on a bench, not by machine. These are deliberate choices that add time and cost while delivering no dyno-measurable result — and that is entirely the point.
